New Additions

This year marks my sscond year flower farming on a small scale. We dont have a huge grower style hoop house or have acres to grow on.

We are lucky we have two and half acres, a wonderful workshop and were slowly expanding our garden beds.

I needed to make a change this year by updating how many seedlings I could grow under grow light.

Last year was tough, I read and reached out to fellow farmers but I was struggling to grasp how much I needed. It took a season of hands on experience to figure out the scale of production I needed.

Now I still dont quite hve my numbers down packed yet but I am trippleing my numbers for each veriety this year.

To do this I needed to change my grow light set up. Four foot grow lights on three foot shelves just arent working. I was loosing space for trays and the light wasnt always even.

You can see above areas that needed improvements. So lulky me I have a husband who doesnt mind to help me out with ideas of how to make this space more efficent.

Just like that, I now had a space that worked for my grow light set up. Now typically its better to use plastic or metal shelves for the is process but money is tight this year and this was the most budget friendly iption for us. I enjoy this set up so much maybe next season I will add anther shelf like this.

If you like this set up below is the breakdown of mesurements:

  • 2 x 1 wood (24 total)

  • 1 foot between shelves

  • 6 shelves high

  • 4 slabes of 2 x1 wood panels (20 inches deep)

  • 4 feet wide
